Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports

At Levi H. Elementary School, we implement PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) to promote a safe and supportive learning environment. Our guiding principle is simple: “Follow the Four B's – Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Safe, and Be College Ready!” Throughout our campus, posters display clear examples of behavior expectations in different areas of the school, and staff are always excited and willing to help our students master their Bs.

According to the Center on Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports, positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students’ behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health. When implemented with fidelity, PBIS improves social emotional competence, academic success, and school climate. It also improves teacher health and wellbeing. It is a way to create positive, predictable, equitable and safe learning environments where everyone thrives.

Administrators and staff are excited to share that in 2024, Levi H. Dickey achieved Platinum recognition! To achieve this monumental success, the school was required to demonstrate a high level of fidelity and effectiveness across all three tiers of the PBIS framework: (Tier 1), targeted (Tier 2), and individualized (Tier 3) supports.

The purpose of California PBIS is to establish a network for state education leaders, county offices, school districts and schools implementing multi-tiered frameworks through Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS). It is our intention to create professional learning communities for those dedicated to effective PBIS/MTSS implementation. Within these learning communities, implementation leaders  will  access information and support leading to desired academic, behavior, and social-emotional outcomes for all California students, families and communities. California PBIS is dedicated to providing a standard of practice for PBIS through the work of technical assistance centers across the state as well as through the use of a statewide PBIS Recognition System. These centers are committed to supporting you in implementing PBIS in your area.

California PBIS Technical support is given by California PBIS Regional Technical Assistance Centers representing Southern, Central, and Northern California. These regional centers work in direct collaboration with partners from the Center on PBIS. Support for California PBIS comes from the Center on PBIS and from the collaborative commitment of the California PBIS Core Leadership Team.

The California PBIS Regional Technical Assistance Centers focus on the critical features of team training, coaching and district implementation teams by developing the internal capacity of organizations to support sustainable practices following the key evidence-based PBIS features and the use of PBIS Applications to monitor fidelity and behavior data for decision making.

  • Data helps us thrive! PBIS (Tiered Fidelity Inventory) and academics (California Dashboard) come together to meet the need of the whole child, ensuring students are in a safe, consistent, and positive environment, which contributes to academic growth and success.

The Tiered Fidelity Inventory is a tool that is used by school site teams to determine implementation fidelity of the PBIS framework to best support student, staff, parent/guardian, and community need.  The California Dashboard provides information about how Local Educational Agencies and schools are meeting the needs of California’s diverse student population.
